TBH I still don’t quite understand the difference between otherhearted and just really liking something a lot. Seems like otherheartedness is simply having an incredible like/love for a species real or fictional. Could any otherkin or otherhearted people correct me on this, or is this otherheartedness and deep emotional bond simply another way of expressing and describing this love for something?

Otherheartedness is identifying heavily with something on a nonphysical, involuntary, and profound level.

For me, well, I’m both shadowhearted and faehearted. Shadowhearted’s pretty simply to explain: if you assign a magical element to every person, I am very blatantly shadow, with a little earth and water thrown in there, and a bit of wind I got from experience in another kintype’s lifetime. One of the first things I remember in the alterhumanity department was willing the shadows in my room to move, and being delighted when the wind (unnoticed by me) shifted a curtain and made the shadows move.

Someone could know exactly what I look like and the clothes I’m wearing, but if I’m standing in any darker than a faint shade, they won’t be able to find me. I’ve been told it’s taken people over half an hour to find me, after passing me about six times. Yeah, I’d call that a connection.

As for faehearted, that’s actually a thing that’s carried over from one of my kintypes. Then, I was a deific, demonic queen who created and ruled over a metric ton of faeries and fae-like beings. It was the sort of ‘if I weren’t a demon I’d be one of these’ kind of connections. That hasn’t changed: while I most resonate with English and Celtic ideals of fae and it’s been a lifelong dream to meet the Tuatha Dé Danann (also known as the descendants of my buddy Dana) at least once with the knowledge of what I’m dealing with; I resonate pretty heavily with all fae.

It’s very much a ‘if I wasn’t human, I’d be fae’ sort of thing. Regardless if I’ve ever seen certain fairy concepts before, they seem utterly familiar to me – at least most of them, so there’s probably a few new ones since I was last around fae and would know of. I spend a whole lot of time in deja-vu over it. Fae are something ancient, something old, something from the dark of the world, and when I’m around even traces of fae, I can feel that power resounding as deep inside myself as it does with them. I’m not fae now, and I don’t identify as fae, but they are still a part of me as much as I am shadow, goddess, Pokemon and Ghoul Child.

Though, my experience isn’t everyone’s. It’s a little vaguely defined of a term, so what someone else has is probably not too close to my experience. But this is one way of how it can manifest, so now you’ve got a slightly better understanding of things. If you’ve got any more questions, I can do my best to answer them. 😀

So many otherkin people jump to say that being otherkin doesn’t equate to mental illness. But then put in the tags “ableism” etc when an anti kin comments on their posts??? Wtf??? Where is your logic???

It depends on what exactly they’re saying, but usually it’s because antis assume that since we’re obviously delusional (false, we don’t fit the definition), we need to be locked up / sterilized / forced into “therapy”. Which is basically saying “I think you’re mentally ill for not having the same beliefs as me and I want your rights taken away and you kept away from me by force” and really, no matter how you spin that, is definite ableism. In the same way that “you wear pink so you’re gay so you should go to conversion therapy” is still homophobia, even if the person it is directed towards isn’t gay.

It depends entirely on what they’re saying, but it’s usually something like that. (If you have specific examples, I can probably explain them for you, if you’d like.)

I just got home and everyone’s mad so I’m going to clarify.

I didn’t say otherkin was a sexuality, and I don’t know how any of you passed fourth grade English if that’s what you thought. I was showing how you can still be hateful towards something when it wasn’t involved previously, using a very well known version of hate that is far more recognizable for what it is.

Jeez.

Let’s be honest if the events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe actually happened, and Loki did try to take over earth, we probably would have just let him.

Loki: You are meant to be ruled.

Us: Yeah you’re probably right, the United States just elected Donald Trump as President. Clearly we can’t be left unsupervised.

Loki: Wait, what?

Us: Where are you going? Don’t leave us with him!

Loki: *runs screaming into the darkness*

me: *clinging to Canada’s unicorn man* over my frost bitten corpse america

yeah, second cousin justin won’t hurt us

my favorite types of kin r the 30yos who are super serious abt kin stuff and take 4 months for decide if theyre kin with pussyclaw warrior cats

My favourite type of tumblrkin are the ones who disrespect and mutilate a 50+yo community and subculture because it’s the “trendy” thing to do.

“what is it abt teenagers that make them hate adulthood”
what is it abt adults that make them wanna shit on kids having fun lol

I don’t have a problem with kids having harmless fun. I have a problem when they’re being disrespectful about it, because at that point it isn’t harmless.

Go have harmless fun in a role play community. Something that is pretend and make believe and not serious, a for fun activity.

Not try and take over an established identity community with decades of histroy attatched and try and force it to be whatever you want like some kind of toy before you get bored and leave—after spreading waves of misinformation and leaving a fuck ton of cleanup for the rest of us.

Being a teenager doesnt free you of responsibility or consequence. If you are old enough to actually be on this website whose mobile verison is rates 17+ then you can handel being told youre wrong and need to look for a new community to better suit your needs.

Also it’s not just teenagers who pull this ignorant bullshit. We hate when anyone does it, not just “kids having fun”.

People have been faking kin experiences since the community came into existence, but reaching “obnoxious fad” levels among children specifically is a fairly recent development.

I remember when I could personally count the number of fictionkin in the community.

You know it’s bad when an established community built on self-exploration, growth, and introspection becomes a fucking meme among outsiders for the exact opposite reasons–petty drama about “fighting for dominance in the parking lot” and people bringing “having problematic IDs” into fucking callout posts.

The communities have never been free of drama but it’s people who take one look at an anime character and decide it’s Literally Them™ now and harass people over “kinning with” the same character as them or someone they don’t like or sending hate over FUCKING SHIPS who are ruining this for people who live with being a certain way and have done so as a community for over 50 years.

So no, it’s not “adults hating kids having fun”, because it’s not a game. It’s not a platform for your fucked-up, ass-backwards “progressive politics”. It’s an identity, an existence, a journey and an understanding of self.

And you are undoing 50+ years of community growth in the span of about 5. I hope you’re happy, I hope you know what you’ve made this subculture look like with your “fun and games.” Go join an RP forum, look up old fandom sites, do something in the fandom aspect of things. Stay out of our fucking communities if you think it’s just “people choosing to be characters for fun”.

do u guys know how pretentious u sound just wondering

I dunno, do you know how absolutely ridiculous you sound? You’re really putting your hands in your ears and going “LALALALA” because you don’t want to be educated, by the looks of things. That’s kind of sad.

Kin things

Does dysphoria ever make you want to get plastic surgery ( A Mattkin example: To get a stronger chin )?

Absolutely. I’m going to have my ears pointed once I’ve got the money for the surgeon, I even know where I’m going. I’ve also considered rhinoplasty for a few different sorts of nose-feelings I have going on. To say nothing of other body modifications like tattoos.

I also know people who plan on getting their tongue split due to reptilian-tongue-related dysphoria.

I also know i’m not the only one who’s in this boat. :B

I suppose it might be less common among human fictionkin but I’ve not heard much about that so I couldn’t be sure. 😮

I definitely would get my ears pointed if I had the chance, and my top surgery would have as much to do with species dysphoria as it does my gender dysphoria. It’s not plastic surgery, but I’ve also considered designing tattoos related to my kintype.

It seems like body mods in relation to kintypes isn’t incredibly common? Which surprises me, tbh.

I’d love pointed ears and a split tongue if I could get it done. (I would also love my pupils altered to be more slit than circular, but I don’t think we have that technology.)

I believe this also goes into transhumanism and things like that; but I don’t know too much about it tbh.

I was recently messaged by @everydayimhufflin and asked to make a post for my followers to see! They’d like to have a skype call and discuss otherkinity. They are their friend are curious to learn more about otherkin. I assume anyone is welcome to join, just message them for details.

@aestherians @who-is-page @elevengrackles @theriannation I can’t think of anyone else I think might be up to it so for now I’ll tag you all in case you’d like to join. I would join myself but I’m an awkward mess in calls, and have a cold anyways.

I would be interested in a voice chat over Discord. No video chat for me, though, and I haven’t used Skype in more than a year.

They asked me on kin-assistence if I could, so I’m going to remind you in case you forgot that video chatting with strangers is usually a really, really, effing terrible idea. Do keep your wits about you, will you?
