one-kin-to-rule-them-all:

here’s to those of us, especially divines, whose wings didn’t have feathers. a lot of posts in the divine tags mention feathers and there’s very little posts for those of us with leather or membrane wings. so here’s to you. demon, god, bat, dragon, whatever you are, you’re great and so are your wings.

please use great caution when it comes to pendulum/tarot ‘kin reading blogs. it’s extremely dubious that these people genuinely have the power to tell you whether you are ‘kin or not, or to tell you the details of your past lives, especially based on a few sentences of (often anonymous) text given to them by submitters. finding out the details of your kintype is a highly personal experience, and it’s potentially damaging to put it in the hands of strangers who have no way of verifying that their information is correct.

please use great caution asking others whether they remember you from a past life in general. it is extremely easy for others to use the information you post to manipulate you by claiming to have known you. exercise caution when others claim to have known you. it has become extremely common to make this claim, and it’s a little frightening because this is a huge red flag for spiritual abusers. this isn’t to say that everyone who makes these claims is an abuser, but that abusers use tactics like claiming to have known you in a past life (particularly claiming to have had a close relationship with you, or having been in a position of power over you) in order to get close to those they prey on.

hey, genuinely sorry for the shitshow that whole death wish post turned into. i know im an asshole, but i dont want those kinds of messages to be sent to people and i know i cant control the fact the some people are just… awful. i think the death wish thing was bait to cause drama between differing blogs and in that case, i apologise for that. i had no idea you received the same message on one of your posts as well. -Darastrix

aestherians:

Darastrix.

You’re the front-runner of most, if not all current vocal anti-kin. Though you claim that you want to ‘help kinnies,’ and you try to hide behind the fact that you’ve been the mod of a help blog, you can not deny that only-on-tomblr was founded on nothing but malice and your current attitude is a facade to seem like less of a bad person. In your own words “anyone can seem nice until they shit on people.”

You’ve shown time and time again that you have no regards for the feelings of those who are happily otherkin and only care for the ones who want to quit the community. You blatantly ignore and block those who correct the misinformation you spread, no matter if the correction is directed at you, the post itself, or one of your followers.

Despite all your ‘don’t harass kinnies’ and ‘leave kinnies alone’ virtue signaling, your vocal contempt for us is making assholes feel like it’s perfectly acceptable to personally tell us to go fuck ourselves on an almost daily basis.

This sudden change of attitude you’re showing is an insult to those who’ve been targeted by you and your followers.

You’re selfish, despise being corrected, believe you know more than actual mental health professionals, and worst of all, you’re one of those people who, when told that you’re wrong, instead of taking some of it to heart, compromising, or even just considering that there might be something to the criticism, will flat-out deny it all and try to argue that you’re right anyways. The behavior I’ve seen from you has been no different than that of the people who’ve made my life a living hell (even if I hesitate to call them outright abusers), and I don’t have a lick of patience for that.

Kindly take your faux sincerity and shove it where the sun don’t shine.

Say, I am genuinely curious; Could you explain to us how the otherkin community used to be, back in the day? What sort of “big changes” have come and gone, if any?

jarandhel:

My personal knowledge of the community goes back to 1999, though I have done research into the community’s history.  There are a few others around who can give you a personal account of the community before that — I’d recommend sylvereapleanan as one of the better people to ask about it.

In my opinion, there are really two big changes that have taken place.  The first is that when I found the community the majority of the people in it subscribed to a spiritual model of being otherkin.  There had been some prior to this who believed that they were genetically otherkin, rather than spiritually, but they were in the distinct minority and even they generally believed in a strong spiritual aspect as well.  Somewhere roughly around 2005 a change took place in the community and we began to see the rise of what are now termed “psychological otherkin” who explain the experience as literally being all in their heads.  I believe this trend was influenced by a similar trend in the therian community which took place earlier and which largely supplanted the original model of “spiritual therianthropy”.  This was of course coupled with a rise in skepticism towards magic, energywork, etc.  Where once it was common to see people asking for someone to scan them or perform an energetic healing or sharing “energy signatures” on mailing lists and forums, now such requests are more often met with total confusion.

Likewise, when I found the community it was common to believe one had past-lives as a nonhuman.  They were commonly discussed, compared and contrasted, and dissected down to the smallest detail.  Entire mailing lists, forums, and LJ communities were created for this express purpose.  But sometime roughly between 2003 and 2005, it began to be taboo to talk about these things publicly.  Doing so was seen as “living in the past”.  Instead, discussion turned to aspects of modern life that people believed expressed their otherkin nature — though how, exactly, they seemed unable to say.  Mead-making, beekeeping, yogurt-making, pickling, permaculture, slow cooking — these things replaced earlier discussions of energywork, myth, magic and memories.  Instead of relating to your otherkin nature as having been a specific being of a specific race at a specific time and place, it became common to relate to it more totemically.  It wasn’t that you were a specific elf reincarnated, it was that you were “embodying the elven current”.  Which seemed to mean whatever hobby the person was into at the time, with no adaptations or mutations from how it was practiced by any non-otherkin engaged in the same hobby.

Together, those two changes have dramatically reshaped what it means to be otherkin and the face of our community.  And not for the better, IMO.

zaphaera:

Alright, so I keep seeing in the tags a lot lately of ways to “get memories” or find “cannon mates” from past lives. These posts are particularly aimed at fictionkin in general.

The thing is though, you can’t force memories. This applies to any past life. If you are trying to force memories, or actively searching for them, your mind will likely come up with something, it will create false memories to sate your longing. Searching for cannon mates will also likely lead you to blind acceptance if not considered effectively. I’m mostly going to talk about past life memories in this post however.

Meditation –

Meditation is a great tool, but one that should be used more effectively than going into it actively looking for memories. Don’t force it. Memories will come or they won’t. Not all fictionkin or otherkin have past life memories, its not a requirement.

If you sit, lie down, or what have you, and go into a meditation specifically for memories, your mind is most likely going to come up with something. If you go in expecting things, they will likely happen. You need to remember to discern between what is a memory and what is more likely confirmation bias. Introspect on what you find, think about how it made you feel, or didn’t feel

Theres more to memories than “seeing them” during meditation. Think about how your human memories today feel, compare them. Are they stronger or weaker? Do you see these memories in first or third person? Take your time with it.

If you are not questioning what you see in meditation, than it is pointless to your spiritual development and learning.

Sigils –

Using “sigils” to find past life memories is also an ineffective way to find anything about yourself. Thats not really how they work. Using sigils is another thing that can essentially trick your mind into making up memories. I see them all over the otherkin tag.

They are more for giving a ‘boost’ to attain your goals through subliminal messaging, like: “I will get a good nights sleep” into a sigil to give a boost in helping you sleep well. Used alone, this probably won’t do much, especially if you are suffering from insomnia. Sigils won’t help with that without some other outside help.

Like I said, they are more like a ‘boost’. Using them to find memories.. I highly discourage as they are another thing that will likely lead one to confirmation bias. You are the one putting energy into the sigil to make it work, and therefore you are likely creating what memories may come from it usually. If memories found are not introspected and questioned upon, than they are useless.

Using sigils to find cannon mates is just as ineffective, and also something you should be more wary about. I know that finding those you ‘used’ to know in another life is something a lot of ‘kin would like, especially when it comes to ‘shared memories’. However, if souls are meant to find each other, they will. Actively searching can lead you to the wrong people, manipulative people that will use your ‘shared life’ as some kind of power of you. Don’t fall into that, nothing is worth that when you have your life here in the present. The past is the past, and your life is here now. The people who are meant to be in your life will find you.

Pendulums –

Pendulum readings are one of the most common and worst offenders on this site. I’ll make it clear before I go on that: Pendulums can’t tell you what your kin/fictotype is. They can’t tell you if your memories are legitimate or not. And they can’t tell you if someone is your cannon mate or not.

Pendulums work by impulse from the users mind; it is a tool to pull answers from the users subconscious. Some stranger on the internet with a pendulum knows nothing about you or your past lives. Using a pendulum yourself for this kind of thing, and going in skeptical and with a questioning mind, is the only possible way that you may find an answer to something. Even then, it is not a reliable way to find the truth.

Meditation, Sigils, Pendulums, all of these making their way around need to be more questionably considered than taking them off the bat as 100% effective ways to find things about oneself.

Introspection. Self Questioning. Research. Time.

Take these into effect when looking for answers to yourself. There is no sure fire way to get what you are looking for. There is nothing valid about past lives or past life memories. They are a belief, a legitimate one to have, but are in no way valid. Keep that in mind when thinking about these things.

Headsup followers, especially for those who would be distressed by this, “trans-trender-trash” is posting disgusting transmisogynistic things in the #otherkin tags (for some reason) n should be blocked. My schizo ass is too paranoid to tag this so it’s free to reblog if anyone wants to share, idc.
