One thing that makes me gag a little is otherkin of any kind – though fictionkin are the ones I’ve seen doing it most – who say that when they’re in an insert-character-here shift, their eyes change to the color of their kintype’s. Three things bother me about that:
- If your eyes are light enough in pigment – blue, green, light hazel, grey (holy fuck, especially grey) then they will reflect more light. Changes in clothing and make up effect the color others will perceive them as. If I wear a green sweater and a warm toned eyeshadow, my eyes will look green under everything but direct sunlight. If I put on cool toned eyeshadow and dark colors, then most people will tell you they are blue except under fluorescent lighting, which washes them out somewhat. Your eyes haven’t changed color, they’re reflecting light and color differently, and that’s not related to your kintype, that’s just science.
- Nobody is ever willing to provide proof. Pictures of this alleged phenomena would be easy to fake, but even lying is above and beyond the level of effort people are willing to put in for this. No one resists harder than people claiming their eyes have shifted to a color outside the human spectrum – who are the ones I would most demand proof from because if you want to claim you’re breaking the laws of human biology, I will at least need you to commit to this shitty idea.
- P-shifting is not real. You cannot physically manifest your kintype traits. That’s not a thing. And when everyone says it’s not a thing, that includes eyes. You may get more teenagers to believe your eyes are changing than you’ll get to believe you sprouted wings, but it’s still based in a concept that the community as a whole, which rarely agrees on anything, agrees is bullshit. And if you would like to fight me on that, see point 2 and send me a shred of evidence.
Congrats. You fell for a ton of trolls.
Nobody otherkin and fictionkin who actually knows what the words mean is going to let pshifters into the community. They’re effing dangerous half the time and need therapy the other half.
