What exactly do you mean “ex-kin”? Did you once have a kintype that then faded? Or were you one of those poor misinformed souls who thought being kin was choosing a character you liked and hardcore-roleplaying it?
Or maybe you were a copinglinker, and it just didn’t work out for you. Any way you slice it, this sort of anger at our community is kind of irrational.
Nobody ever twisted your arm and made you say you were kin.
Otherkinity is, by itself, not harmful. Please note the distinction between “not harmful” and “harmless”. One can experience troubles due to a kintype, yes, even that oh so controversial species dysphoria. But having a kintype isn’t inherently harmful. Now I know I sound quite defensive, and maybe even aggressive, about all this, but I truly don’t mean it that way. I’m sorry for the struggles you went through. I hope you are in a better place now, and yes, I even encourage you to vent as much as you need.
Anon, you tell us to let up on anti-kin, to “fix” our community. What do you think we are doing? Anti-kin, and the misinformation they perpetuate, are quite possibly the ones to blame for your struggles. Each and every one of the mods here seeks to help out our community, whether through correcting misinformation, or through being an advisor. How do you think we all met? It was us trying to fix our community, and growing continually frustrated with anti-kin, that led us to all join together on this blog. (It’s really quite cathartic to just laugh at their stupidity instead of being calm and reasonable with them)
And since when do we mock “people affected by kin”?
For that matter, who is affected by kin, except those who are kin, and maybe those closest to them?
And, anon, none of us mods has used autism as an insult on this blog, that much I can guarantee, though I can’t promise it has never happened, though I would wager that any such instances are far in the past. We all strive to be accepting, only insulting those who truly do deserve it. Like anti-kin.
