Food for thought

Should woodland fae be vegetarian? Not judging you if you are or aren’t, but I was thinking of going vegetarian to have the diet a faery should. Just something for you guys to think about.

Speaking on most mythology of woodland fae, I’m pretty sure they’re into eating humans that trespass into their woods. Last I checked, cannibalism’s also pretty illegal, so I think you should just be eating whatever you’d normally eat. I mean, probably should try to eat somewhat healthy and all, but being a fae doesn’t mean you /have/ to do anything differently. 😮

A question for Angel kin.

Recently this discussion came up on another social media platform and I’m interested in hearing other’s opinions on this. Please note that this question does not reflect my opinion on the subject.

Question:
“Can you be angelkin just for fun?”

What do you think?
Is that absolutely fine? Is it disrespectful or otherwise just misinformed? Should they instead be saying, ‘I just like the aesthetics of angels’ rather than calling themselves angel kin or in the end is it no one’s business how they choose to identify?

No. It’s an involuntary experience. I suggest looking into otherlinking, though – it might have what you’re looking for.

Is there a translation to Spanish or other language of the word otherkin? I ask since therianthropy and alterhumanity can be easily translated

alt–h:

the spanish speaking communities i’ve encountered just use ‘otherkin’: see its use in otherkin hispano and otherkin, el despertar. that said, the latter link attests in the sidebar that “Other = Otra – Kin = ‘Piel’”, so perhaps that’s a possible translation.

as for other languages:

i proposed once that the gaelic word for otherkin would be eileach (i think this is valid in both irish and gaidhlig). i think i’d be more tempted to use this as a general umbrella term like ‘alterhuman’ these days, though.

thébaïde in its french-language section again just uses ‘otherkin’, but also provides a gloss to french for its constituent morphemes that could be used as its own word.

if you can speak russian, you might be able to find mentions of otherkinity on this forum – we haven’t been able to make heads or tails of it yet.

any of our followers know what the various alterhuman communities are called in other languages? if you’ve got non-english sources that talk about otherkinity, therianthropy, or any other alterhuman community, show us them!

Otherkin in French is usually autrekind / autrité. Copinglink is support-lier, fictionkind is still fictionkind. Otherhearted is usually autre-au-coeur.
At least, that’s how I translated things when I did a presentation on otherkinity for my French final in my last year of highschool.

What are your thoughts on tumblr user turing-tested legally changing his name to that of his kin?

If he likes the name, then what’s wrong with that? I know more non-kin trans folk who named themselves after fictional characters than I can count on my hands; it’s not much different for trans kinfolk to do so.

I also find it just a bit ironic that you felt the need to ask this to someone who goes by Fae.

okay but what was… your nasty ass reason for putting this in an unrelated person’s inbox? were you purposefully trying to start drama? sorry, i just find myself rather confused by you asking this at all, anon.

hi y’all my name is pale luteia meilyn defteros greenwood and yes, when i can change my name legally that’ll be it. 😀

Okay so I’ve known I’m a winged human for over a year now, and recently I’ve realized that I might be a child of Aphrodite. I have no idea what to call myself though? Like I call myself an angel but is there a word for divine offspring?

Also is this like a thing? Is there anyone else like this?

Demigod is probably the word you’re looking for.

Unpopular opinion, maybe, but saying “I am x-kin” holds a lot more power and self-asuredness than “I am kin with x”

yeah but it SOUNDS DUMB.

I personally think “X is my kintype” is the most clear

I always just say “I am [x]” and letting people make of it what they will

Yeah, I like that last one best. I usually just go “I’m X, and it’s a fictionkin thing, so yeah” and that sounds good enough to me.

Don’t you just love it when you’re shifted to two different fictotypes at once, maybe three, and you have absolutely no idea what’s going on?

Hybrid shifts are a fucking trip and I don’t miss them a damn bit. Learning how to keep things separate when they get all fucked up like that was important, I focused on one thing and sorted out everything that wasn’t that shift until things were more normal again. Maybe try that, especially if this is a recurring thing?

My solution was ‘it’s one in the fucking morning let’s just sleep’. I don’t hate them per se, they’re just interesting to deal with because I usually know what shift I’m in by what interests me and what I look like in headspace (I really need to draw out what that all looks like by shifts, honestly), and sometimes I get hit with the hybrid shifts and suddenly I have no idea who I am at the moment.

Last night was a pretty interesting combo of Yukari, Defteros, and I think Luteia; and when you realize that as Defteros I’m a 6′0″ beefy dude and Yukari is like 5′4″ and a literal stick of a girl, it’s not the most normal of shifts and I think my subconscious got a little confused trying to put them together. Because like, some of my ‘types and ‘links are more ‘compatible’ with some than with others – Yukari/Luteia hybrid shifts are pretty okay, it’s all flowers and demons and none of the Devil powers beating me over the head with a stick. Defteros/Luteia are also pretty good, it’s all power and enough of the cosmos to balance out that Devil and lots of destroying stuff for the hell of it. Defteros/Yukari was not a good combo, and I’ve never had that particular one crop up, so I really only had one choice there and it was to go the fuck to bed.

I end up experiencing more hybrid shifts than shifts to just one, now that I think about it. But it’s really all about balancing my identity anyway and not getting in contrast with myself. Easier said than done, but distractions always fix it in the end.
