Honestly, heartedtypes/kithtypes and synpaths are some of the most underrated and ignored alterhuman identities. It seems like most people devalue them to degree or treat them as if they’re lesser than kintypes, and I honestly don’t know why. I wouldn’t be who I am today without my synpath and my heartedtype and they’re at least as important as my kintypes are, sometimes even more.

I think a lot of the devaluing comes from the fact that a lot of people don’t really know what the ‘hearted experience is actually like. There’s this misconception that I see a lot, that otherhearted is synonymous with ~really liking something a lot~ which is… not even close. In the slightest. Also, the phrasing of otherhearted’s definition (identifying with something non-human) is super vague. Not that it’s incorrect at all, it’s just that it doesn’t fully capture the kinds of feelings and experiences involved.

Misconceptions and the like are part of the reason I put together this list of animal-hearted links, and why I’ve tried to write a thing here and there about the experience (I want to translate more things into words in the future, but it takes a while :P). Being animal-hearted is at the center of my animal-person identity these days; it would be great if we could be recognized as something that isn’t “lesser” than therianthropes.
