I’ve been scouring pinterest lately for witchy crafts, and here are some I’ve found, along with what I would use them for!
Wall Hanging – Okay so I made a really cool wall hanging for someone a while ago, and with their permission, I enchanted it to bring motivation, happiness, and warmth to their space. I feel like you could do the same with any wall hanging. I added braids, chestnut halves, and even color coordinating yarn to make mine.
Star Light Garland – Great for Cosmic Witches! Or for those of you who need a little light around your altar, around your bed for soft light, etc.
Flower Candle Holders (Plaster Dipped Flowers)– Yes, you can buy these already made, but aren’t the ones linked so awesome? I think it makes perfectly preserved flowers to keep all year, and the flame of the candle might help draw their energy out!
Concrete Dragon Egg Candle Votives – While we’re on the topic of candle holders, why not take a look at these amazing ‘dragon egg’ ones? If you work with dragon spirits, or really any animal/creature spirit with eggs, it will look amazing on your altar!
Watercolour Painted Pillow – For all of you who use magic to work your way into your dreams, or are looking for a fun way to calm yourself before bed, try this! You can even paint it with moon water!
Dream/Wish Jar – All you have to do is write down your dreams/wishes on the paper of your choice, and throw them in a jar. I suggest making matching sigils for each one, and burning them at the full moon. I made one, and it looks so cute in my room! Super great for hidden witches!
Moon Rocks – I know, I know, not exactly a moon rock, but if you make these with moon water in place of regular water, and charge them under the full moon, they could stand in for the moon on cloudy nights, charge your crystals, etc.
DIY Essential Oil Diffuser Necklaces – Obviously, this is a really inconspicuous way to use essential oils! You could wear one for protection when you’re feeling unsafe, attract love on the days you want too, and even give them away as gifts to other witches!
DIY Detoxifying Activated Charcoal Soap – Okay, but how much witchery could you do with these? So much!! After you are finished cursing, or perhaps on the night of a full moon, you could scrub up with this and get all kinds of cleansed!
Ombre Mermaid Soap – All the yes. Sea witches could use this in Mermaid beauty bath spells, or give it up as an offering! They’re so pretty, and with a little enchantment, could be magical!
Jellyfish in a Bottle – Do you interact with spirits of the sea? Maybe Jellyfish? Then go ahead and capture their beauty with this awesome DIY, and use the bottle as a spirit vessel for your jellyfish guests!
Mini Natural Brushes (Brooms) – These are great for on the go witchery, or for painting out your spells. You can keep dried ‘brushes’ in mini altar kits to use as a besom, or use them as brushes for making sigils, etc.
Lay-Flat Storage Mat – Divination Supplies, witchy spell kits, enchanted jewelry- the opportunities are endless! Use black to keep the energy locked inside, and paint or draw sigils on it for an added boost!
DIY Hand Cast – Make your own palmistry guide using this neat craft. You can cast your hand and paint on it however you’d like!
Pressed Flower Candles – Preserve the beautiful energy of almost any flower by creating a candle with it! Burn the candle when you need the herb or flowers energy for your spell, and Make as many as you can while the flowers are blooming!
Wind Chimes – Perfect for alerting you of potential intruders, Wind chimes placed inside can add a natural, as well as witchy, flair to your space. If you hear it, but there is no wind, you’ll know someone has come to visit!
DIY Candles – Add your energy as you make these candles for a boost in your spells. There’s even a ‘Sprinkes’ candle you can enchant to grant wishes, and you can light this every year on your birthday.
Bird’s Nests – Yes, you can make a nest of your own! Using special herbs, you can make a home fit for a spirit, or use it as a shrine to the Air element.
Wooden Spoons (Personalized) – With a wood burner and some concentration, you too can make a Kitchen Wand! Enchant soups and pastas with special energy with your very own wooden Spoon Wand!
Gazing Ball – So, this isn’t exactly a crystal ball, but it will work just like a scrying mirror. Simply follow the directions, and, if you wish, exclude the additions to the sphere. Then, you’re good to go!
DIY Succulent Planters – Green witches, I got a DIY for you, too! Make these succulent planters, and put them near a window, especially if your altar is near by. They’ll provide protection and hardiness to your home and its defense systems!
Crystal Candle Votives– These crystals are 100% made by you. You can give them special intentions and colour them accordingly. Have fun making your own set of crystals!
Paper Leaf Garland – A little bit of nature for your altar! I know it isn’t real, but for those of you who can’t grow a plant near your altar, it will work beautifully!
Wish Bracelets – I loved mine when I had it! They’re super fun to wear, and will be a discreet witchy project for you to try. Just make a wish, and wait for it to fall off!
Rustic Twig Ornaments – Use these as wards throughout your home, and enchant them to bring you whatever you need.
Button Bicycles – To help your spell get going, throw in a button bicycle! Use it inside poppets, sachets, etc.
Packaging Tape Image Transfers – These can help you label your herbs, crystals, and spell jars! Have fun coming up with cute designs and whimsical fonts!
Paper Envelopes – For those of you who send letters, write them, or use envelopes in your spells, you can create them using paper with this method!
I figured this might be nice for people who want to start making their own spells but don’t quite know where to start and might appreciate an outline.
Meditate on your intent. You don’t have to literally meditate, but take some time to make sure you know exactly what you want. Fine-tune it, make it more concise, make it more specific, try to get it so you have just one powerful sentence, one rock-solid goal.
Check spell times. I try to cast my spell to line up with the best day of the week and phase of the moon. I have a weird instinct of always coming up with a spell the day I should cast it, which is nice but doesn’t give me a lot of prep time. If the times that work with your intent don’t line up with your schedule, don’t sweat it. It isn’t crucial.
Think of what type of spell you’d like. Is it for confidence? Maybe you’d like to enchant a necklace you can wear out. Protecting your home? Maybe a jar spell that can rest in your windowsill. Maybe you want to do something with candles. Whatever feels most appropriate for your situation.
Browse materials. I flip through my grimoire and online and try to find what herbs, colors, crystals, planets, etc. line up with my intent. I rule out things that I couldn’t reasonably obtain in time, and make special note of anything that I already have. If you organize your stuff by associated planets or elements, you could even focus your spell by having everything you end up choosing in one category.
Throw it all together. You have an intent and a materials list, so combine them. Dress that candle in some herbs or plan to stuff your materials in a sachet or jar. Maybe you want to do some sympathetic magic and recreate your desired outcome. Build something meaningful to you.
Write any prayers, chants, or petitions beforehand. Trust me. Nothing is more awkward and more distracting during a spell than getting to the part where you planned to speak, and not knowing what to say. Making it up on the spot is fine if inspiration comes to you, but it also runs the risk of you forgetting some specifics or focusing more on what you’re saying than your intent. I like at the very least having a pre-written backup.
Chill! Don’t cast the spell immediately after you’ve designed it. If you’re like me, you’ve probably raised some energy already just through this process. Let yourself tackle it with a fresh mind and a full battery.
Write down everything. During/after the spell, write down anything that happened outside of your plan. Did a new chant come to you? Did you get interrupted? Were the candle flames acting weird? Make note. Follow up with what the effects were, to see if it was successful. What could have gone better? That way, if you ever do the spell again, you can see what needs revision. In this way, a spell is never actually done writing itself. It grows and gets more fine-tuned as you do!
This is a really great question that I think merits a longer and more in depth answer, so I’m working on that but I wanted to leave you with something in the meantime.
Having worked a lot in both academic and corporate environments I’ve adopted the so-called “SMART” goals system and that’s the framework I used when I first started doing magic. S = specific, M = measurable, A = attainable, R = relevant, T = timely. I’ll go more into detail on each of these in the in-depth post I’m working up, but those should be your general guidelines for a spell.
There are a few ways you could go with this, but my go-to when I’m trying a new method of casting is a money spell. It’s specific, measurable, attainable (as long as you’re not asking for a million dollars or something… I usually avoid a specific amount), relevant (as in, the spell is meant to bring you money).
Timely is where most people get stuck. What is an appropriate amount of time to wait for results? Should you wait a day, a month, a year? If the spell allows for it, I include a set time frame of one week within the spell. Two works works too, but that would be the maximum limit I recommend. You don’t want to be waiting around for one month every time you do a spell hoping it works. One week is usually ample time for things to manifest, and it allows you to try something new the following week if it doesn’t work.
As you would with a scientific experiment, do only one test at a time. If you do a ritual spell, then a spell jar, then hearth magic, you won’t have any way of knowing which one worked if something does manifest.
The other great thing about money spells is they’re not subjective. It’s really hard to remain objective sometimes, especially when you’re a new witch. Sometimes we want things to work so bad that we just kind of… tell ourselves they did, even though that’s not necessarily the case. With a money spell there’s no question as to whether or not it worked, you either have money you didn’t have before or you don’t. End of.

When it comes to the Craft and its community, many witchlings (beginner witches) ask for more advanced witches to hand over spells left and right without question. Now, this may be done with good intentions. Many witchlings do not know how to acquire spells, as many of them are kept secret.
This is done for a reason. Many witches, including myself, believe that spells and rituals are strongest when created themselves. I am going to be the kind High Priestess and instead of giving you a fish, and you feeding you for a day. I am going to teach you to fish, and feed you for a lifetime. In other words, I am going to teach you how to make your very own spells and rituals!
Keep in mind to write this all down before casting your spell and performing your ritual in your Book of Shadows, or in an old notebook (whatever you have).
1. Ask yourself these questions
What is the purpose of this spell? – You need to ask yourself what you are wanting to achieve by performing this spell. Is it for love, fertility, finances, health, or beauty? Think about what you want your spell to do and write it down. A single sentence will do.
2. Timing
Make sure the timing is right! Sometimes a spell is better cast during the full moon, new moon, or even the waning or waxing moon! Sometimes it may be best to do it on a certain Sabbat or season. Some witches go so in-depth that they track the planetary locations and time of day and week to perform their spells.
3. Choosing your tools
With many types of spells come many types of tools. You will need all the tools for a basic altar before getting tools specific for your spell.
First, you will need to think of a specific crystal/stone that will suit the purposes of the ritual.
Next, you will need to think of a type of herb or incense (or both) that will work with your ritual.
Third, you will need a candle (or a few) for the ritual. If you did not know, different color candles have different meanings. For example, red means lust, anger, and passion; blue means sadness, compassion, and emotion. You can carve a Sygil in the candle as well for added effect.
4. Open the Circle
If you do not know what a circle is, it is a magical barrier cast by you that protects you from any harmful, negative, or annoying energies that could ‘mess up’ your ritual.
Not all witches do this, but it might be wise to do so. This is especially crucial if you are a beginner, or if you are performing a very serious ritual.
To open the circle:
You can have salt, crushed eggshells, or simply a string or pillows to mark the edges of the circle.
Use a compass to see where each direction is. Mark each direction with a label if you have a hard time remembering which direction is which.
Have everything you need in your circle before casting it.
Go to your altar and invite the Elements and (if you are pagan) the God and Goddess. You can word this however you like.
Cast the circle by using your wand or finger and ‘trace’ the edges of the circle. Always go clockwise. Go around three times while announcing the circle being cast three times (you can use any wording).
5. Perform the Esabbat and Sabbat
If it is a new, or full moon, you might want to perform an Esabbat before starting to cast your spell. If it is during a Sabbat, perform the Sabbat ritual too. I mention this because most witches take advantage of casting certain spells during these magical times to amplify their magic.
6. Perform the ritual
Start the ritual by stating the purpose of the ritual. What is this ritual even for? Announce this to the Universe so it can hear. It can be as long or as short as you want.
Next, light the incense/herb. State something like you are ready to pass your intentions into the universe through this herb/insentience and its properties.
Third, light the candle. State something like you are sending your intentions to the universe through this light and its color/elemental correspondences.
Lastly, meditate with the stone. Imagine the spell working and see yourself and others benefiting from the effects of this spell.
7. Cakes and ale (only if you are Pagan)
Have food with you (does not have to be cakes and ale) to eat. Leave a portion for the God and Goddess. Recite a prayer about how thankful you are for the Gods and the Elements. Leave a bit afterwards for an offering to the Gods.
Have a feast, listen to music, watch videos, and relax for a bit.
8. Close the Circle
This is pretty much the reverse of opening the circle:
Go to your altar and say goodbye to the Elements and (if you are pagan) the God and Goddess. You can word this however you like.
Cast the circle by using your wand or finger and ‘trace’ the edges of the circle. Always go counter-clockwise. Go around three times while announcing the circle being dismissed three times (you can use any wording).
Sweep up the salt or eggshells (if you put any down) counter-clockwise.
Clean up.
If you would like to learn more through my teachings, I run a blog that has structured lessons being made every week.
🌿Herb sachets hung above your bed (request herb sachet recipes from me if you’re interested).
🌿Hang Dry herbs upside down in your bedroom (Lavender helps for anxiety and depression… it is very calming or Mugwort for dreams. Mugwort is very invasive, you can find it growing everywhere).
🌿Herbs placed inside your pillow sheet (I place Mugwort leaves inside to active lucid dreams).
🌿Setup an Altar near your bed: add elements of earth, fire, water and air. You can also use your windowsill as an altar.
🌿Place Black Tourmaline under your bed: shields you energetically by taking the electromagnetic frequencies, and instead of absorbing them, tourmaline changes, redirects, cleanses, and purifies the energy. This is how it handles negativity, even energies of psychic attack too!
🌿Place Sigil writings or powders for protection and restful beauty sleep under your mattress.
🌿Keep a dream journal under your pillow! Dreams can help us get a glimpse into our subconscious and the more dreams you write the easier it becomes for you to remember them.
🌿Unless you are allergic, sleep with the window halfway open or cracked to let good energy move around and circulate in your room and keep skin hydrated during the night.
🌿Drink herbal tea before bed each night. (Request free herbal tea recipes from me if interested) Mugwort tea is great to have in the evening before bed to reach high levels of lucid dreaming
🌿Smoking Herbs before bed is great as well. I recommend this book for further reading: Smoke Plants Of North America by M.R. Ross. (Request free Smoke Blend recipes from me if interested).

Magick Meanings – dainty, luck, purity NOTE: The problem is, it is closely related to, and looks almost exactly like another wild plant, Wild or Poison Hemlock, which often grows profusely in similar habitats, and is said to be the most poisonous plant native to the United States. The best way to differentiate between the two plants is to remember that Queen Anne’s Lace has a hairy stem, while the stems of Wild Hemlock are smooth and hairless and hollow with purple spots.

A sigil for curses and hex bags; to bring the sins of the person back unto them. They have caused pain and heartbreak and they will feel it in turn; causing pain to clean the wound. No more than they have done, no less than they deserve.
