Out of curiosity, do you ever think that maybe most kin know more about their identity than an unrelated third party?
If it was a phase, that means you were never otherkin in the first place. It’s a permanent, involuntary identity. It is not a phase by definition – and even if it was, why do you care? Do you just assume that because hair grows and must eventually be cut, there’s no point to acknowledging the existence of dyed hair? Even if something isn’t permanent, it is still worthy of note while it exists.
But the point remains that otherkinity is an involuntary, permanent identity: and believe me, I don’t think there’s a person who hasn’t considered that it’s a phase. Introspection is the one thing every last one of us shares. I would be worried if we didn’t consider this angle, and found it nearly always false. If your otherkin identity goes away, it’s because you were mistaken about it, on in extremely rare cases, gained closure and moved on.
It isn’t a phase, no. And in most cases, it is incredibly rude to ask that. It’s akin to oh, asking someone working with implicit derivatives if they’ve tried putting it in their phone’s calculator. If it was viable, they would have done it already.

I just realized in the penultimate paragraph I typo’d “or in extremely rare cases” and my phone’s autocorrect didn’t pick it up so It’s Time To Die, Now.
