Serious question for otherkin,
Why is it that demon kin do not typically take names the way Angelkin or godkin or divinekin do? I see plenty of angelkin possing as Verchiel or Ramiel or Gabriel but never a demonkin claiming to be Glasya-labolas or Samael or Adramelech? I literally have a book that’s a good 2 inches thick full of known and documented demons and demon types? I think I’ve see maybe one person taking Stolas as their kin type but that’s it?
Because Abrahamic angels have a vastly different community than the actuallydemonic community does. Godkin should be left out of this conversation, 90% of us aren’t even from this side of the multiverse’s freeways and thus don’t need to be acknowledged here too much.
‘Demon’ is a very broad term, and 90% of the Abrahamic demons are renamed pagan gods, because that’s just how Abrahamic organized religion used to be, and still is to a point. Not many demonkin around are Abrahamic in nature, and a lot of them don’t have known names. Even then, the demons around aren’t from this world. Maybe a different incarnation of this world, but not the exact one we’re using right now. Same face, same name, different person.
Kintypes are involuntary, if you didn’t know, so it’s not just picking someone out of a book and deciding that you’re them now. They’re you and you are them whether you like it or not.
The point remains is that Abrahamic angels have a very specific hierarchy, and there aren’t many other options under ‘angel’. ‘Demon’, on the other hand, is an obnoxiously vague term, so the demonkin around here tend to be more diverse underneath the label.
I see ~ I think my pitfall was assuming demons to be a specifically Abrahamic term~I see the error in that now ~ and I don’t mean to insinuate that a kin type is a choice but that it could be beneficial to have resources for ppl who do connect with a particular name they may not have heard before ~
You did imply it, but it’s a simple enough correction. But that would’ve been your mistake, yup. Demon is as broad a term as fae is, and the line between the two is pretty blurred. Abrahamic demons are just angsty angels in fancy wings, and the actual malevolent spirits who aren’t fallen angels rather fall better under the term of fae.
Instead of suggesting resources, though – link ‘em. I want to hoard more encyclopedias in case another Prince of Hell decides he’s going to live in my laundry room, can’t be too careful. :p
For “Edgy” Otherkin
(Primarily referencing aesthetic blogs and young teens.)
The more traditionalist and education-driven sect (Which too is valid) of the non-human community seems to have a knack for picking on younger kin with “edgy” or otherwise dark identities, aesthetics or fashion.
Often referencing things such as “Not all Otherkin are edgy emo kids” during explanations to non-kin individuals.
However, being an “edgy” emo kid is completely fine.
Experiencing agression during shifts is fine, being angry is fine, feeling violent is normal and is a part of being human. Expressing safely in a way that harms none should be normalized, not shamed.
It is not the result of “Cringe-Worthy kiddos trying to edgy/badass/tough online.”
It’s the result of growing up, puberty, hormones and trying to find a place in the world.
Having the classic stereotypical “I am a snarling angry predator” moments are a-okay as long as you do not act on them.
Dressing in alternative fashion is fine, listening to alternative music is fine.
Having an aesthetic that doesn’t revolve around forests, nature and hippie-dippie themes is fine.
Is it not hypocritical to respond to criticism of edgy dark kin by stereotyping nature-loving/lighter kin?
I never stereotyped them? I said it’s alright not to associate yourself with their aesthetic. I fall somewhere in a grey-area inbetween considering my I-R-L fashion preferences coexisting with my wild/nature/pagan themes.
Uh yeah I’m one of those stereotypical hippy-dippy forest-lovers whose aesthetic is cows and wildflowers and I don’t feel belittled in the slightest, and I wholeheartedly support the message in the original post. Don’t know what @luciferandphilosophy is on about
But I revolve around forests and nature… And also the stereotypical edge…

Another serious question + a suggestion
How much do y’all demonkin actually study demonology? Cuz I feel like most posts I see are super vague about your demon feelings/memories? Which is fine if you were born into a legion or a lower cast I guess but it seems like y’all could benifit it from some actual demonology resources maybe quell some of those bad feeling of disconnect?
Sorry im a demonolator and I just don’t like seeing ppl suffer or be missinformed especially when there’s a whole wide world of resources y’all could benefit from~
A lot of us do. I’ve read six encyclopedias and currently own two, one of which is indeed the Dictionnaire Infernal, and I’ll share my resources upon request. People tend to be vague because they’re mostly just talking to the void, and don’t feel like writing essays on it in every post.
And as I said in the last post – demon is a pretty broad term, not everyone had a legion or caste system. I sure didn’t, but I’m also not from here in the slightest, so the point is moot there.
