There are have been many terms
created to describe people who identify as Earth plants:– In February 1995 “wereplants”
was coined.– The term
“plantkin” is at least as old as 2004 and was used on a livejounral
community.– In 2004 on the website Green
Is More Than A Color the term “greenkin” was coined.– In 2006 the term
“woodkin” was coined on another Livejournal community.Ever since at least 2006 by my
reckoning the term “plantkin” has been the accepted term used in the
various otherkin communities to prefer to people who identify as plants. So where does the term
“phythanthrope” come in? Well, I coined that term just a few years ago.
It was 2013 and I wanted a personal term I could use myself because I spent
most of my time in the therianthrope community and had grown tired of the fact
that within the therianthrope community they generally define otherkin as
people who identify as non-Earthly creatures. Also, I didn’t much like the
sound of “plantkin” anyway. So I coined “phytanthrope” to use
instead.Yet, it is funny that now, at
least in the therianthrope community, people are considering
“phytanthrope” the main term. However if you go to any community for
plantkin, they still use “plantkin.” I kind of worry how my label usage
may drastically alter the plantkin community because now more and more
resources are picking up my term rather than using the term the plantkin
community uses.– Darahagh
