Concept: Cameotypes
You know those characters, animals, and so on that make feel all shifty but aren’t technically kintypes or heartedtypes, yet are still important enough to your therian/‘kin experience that you feel like mentioning them somehow? I propose we call them cameotypes.
This term would cover things that push into a shift for an established kintype, things you often cameoshift into, and things that feel like heartedtypes but only do so because they remind you of your kintype.
In my case it would be animals like fighting bulls, gaurs, and barbary sheep for my bison kintype. For my gnoll kintype it would be hyenas, Tasmanian devils, and Kumatetsu from Bakemono no Ko.
How do you feel about this concept?
This definitely sounds like something I’ve experienced!
To make sure I’m understanding this correctly, a cameotype is something that is thematically similar to existing kintypes, yes? If so, then it’s really nice to have a word for that.Yeah! I deliberately want the definition to be a bit broad, so ‘something thematically similar to your kintype’ could definitely be covered by it.
This is interesting, because my immediate first thought was “what distinguishes this from cladotherianthropy (or similar things in otherkind/fictionkind circles, if there is any)” or even how could this not be a potential indicator of cladotherianthropy/similar? I don’t experience either (I don’t think, at least).
I definitely think that discussing and defining this experience more could be a good idea, though, since it definitely seems like something other people have thoughts and ideas about.
oooh I’m unfamiliar with the term “cladotherianthropy”
If it’s similar to this proposed cameotype it would probably be in my interest to look into that, too.Vice is a lizard cladotherian, and for him it means that his theriotype isn’t just one specific kind of lizard, like some people might specifically be a bearded dragon or a gecko. He feels like he’s a lizard, but in a much more generalized way that encompasses nearly everything that could be considered a lizard (occasionally including dinosaurs).
If that didn’t make sense let me know, I’m not a cladotherian myself but he’s talked to me about his experiences a lot.
That makes sense! I know someone irl who could be considered a cladotherian.
If I’m experiencing the same thing aestherians is describing with cameotype, then they’re probably different. My personal example of cameotype as I understand it is, characters like mewtwo and deadpool could be considered cameotypes to me because of my kintype that came to be in part due to experimentation/coming from a lab. They’re all different characters, but their stories have similarities that resonate with me but are not kintypes or heart types. Things could get a bit more blurry with things like animals or fictional species though.
If that’s the idea of a cameotype, I’ve got a few. Huh.
