Otherkin pride flag by BeyondLGBT

Today, we discovered that there are otherkin pride flags and that there’s actually a bunch of them (this is just the community pride flag, but there are specific ones too. It’s wild).

They do exist, but they’re not exactly completely accepted within the community. 95% of otherkin pride flags are made by trolls and grossly misinformed folks. A few older users suggested calling them identity banners, to divorce the misinformation that otherkin is a queer identity, which on its own it isn’t. I can see the use for these sorts of creations, but don’t mistake that because they exist, everyone accepts them, because it’s quite the argument-starter.

Might want to do a bit of research before accepting such things, but at least now you know some of it.

Hmm…

For clarity (to anybody who sees this post), the original post is not us suggesting that they should or shouldn’t be used, just that we were surprised that they exist. We are completely and entirely disinterested in getting involved in discourse over whether these are a good idea or not.

Having said that, thank you shadowfae for sharing that information.

I’m not asking you to take a position, and I did read your surprise at its existence. I was moreso warning you that you were likely to run into the controversy surrounding it and why that controversy exists, hopefully before anyone in a particularly bad mood showed up and started getting angry at you for not knowing / somehow disagreeing with their side of the controversy when that’s not what you were doing.

Apologies if I didn’t make that clear.
