Genuinely curious: What exactly is the difference between otherkin, therianthropes(spirit animals AFAIK) and furries?
1. Otherkin identify partially or entirely as a nonhuman entity on a nonphysical and involuntary level.
2. Therianthropes identify partially or entirely as a nonhuman, Earthen animal on a nonphysical and involuntary level. (Like dogs or dinosaurs- nothing scientifically unproven, only things that exist on earth at some point.)
3. Spirit animals are not at all related to otherkinity or therianthropy. They’re a cultural thing, more prevalent in Native American things than others iirc. You don’t identify as them, though.
4. Furries are just people with fursonas.
So therianthropes are a subtype of otherkin? Interesting!
Sorta, yeah. All therians count as otherkin, but not all otherkin are therians. Something like that, anyway. There’s a lot of nuance that I don’t keep much track of since I’m not a therian myself.
